Witness the magic of Italian cinema from 9 to 15 June.

Hey there, movie buffs. Cinema Akil is bringing back its fantastic film week and this time, you get a chance to watch Italian cinema classics. Teaming up with the Italian Cultural Institute, Cinema Akil is going to celebrate the talent of legendary filmmaker Federico Fellini.

Under the theme The Enigmatic World of Federico Fellini, the Italian Film Week will kick off on 9 June and run until 15 June. It'll introduce audiences to the captivating universe of Federico's works and feature a curated selection of seven feature films spanning various genres such as biography, comedy, drama and history. The filmmaker's exploration of the human condition, existential contemplations and the pursuit of identity will be central themes throughout the film week, allowing viewers to delve into the brilliance of his storytelling.

The program will open with Emanuele Crialese's L'immensita (2022), a tale of love, passion and freedom set in 1970s Rome. It also stars Penelope Cruz who was recently announced as the new face of Emirates. This vibrant coming-of-age story sets the stage for the cinematic journey that lies ahead. Other masterpieces that will be screened include La Strada (1954), Nights of Cabiria (1957) and 8½ (1963).

Among the contemporary Italian productions featured in the lineup are Felix Van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch's The Eight Mountains, which received the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2022. Another notable film is Susanna Nicchiarelli's Chiara (2021), which depicts the story of a young woman embracing poverty in her own unique way, following in the footsteps of St. Francis. 

Additionally, the visually-driven biography Italia, Fire and Ashes (2021) will take film lovers on a journey through the soul of Italian cinema, uncovering its history, art and resilience.

Prepare to be mesmerised, delighted and utterly captivated by the magic of the movies during Cinema Akil's Italian Film Week.
