Moscow Ballet La Classique are from Moscow, Russia. Founded in 1990 by the Union of Theatre Activists of USSR, the company brings together dancers from theatres in Moscow, Perm, Saratov and St Petersburg. Former dancers and choreographers include Alexander Prokofiev, Irina Pyatkina, Nikita Dolgushin and Ruslan Pronin.
The company’s repertoire includes Don Quixote, Giselle, La Bayadere, Romeo and Juliette, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. The troupe have toured the world in countries including Argentina, Austria, Italy, Spain and New Zealand. Plus, they are no strangers to the region and have toured Qatar and the UAE.
The original Swan Lake was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875. At the time, it was a failure and the score was considered too complicated for a ballet. Today, it is one of the world’s most famous scores.
Swan Lake tells the story of Prince Siegfried who falls in love with Princess Odette. One day, he goes on a hunting trip and encounters a flock of swans. He falls in love with the swan queen, Princess Odette, and swears allegiance to her. What follows is a dramatic tale of love and longing.
