Guess what, movie buffs? The coolest indie cinema in town, Cinema Akil, is spreading its wings and opening a second location. The region's only independent arthouse cinema is expanding its empire and opening at the swanky 25hours Hotel Dubai One Central.
Since its humble beginning as a pop-up cinema in 2014, Cinema Akil has been wowing audiences with its carefully curated selection of lesser-known films. And now, it's cranking up the excitement with a brand new branch, which will open before the end of the year.
Cinema Akil has been shaking up Dubai's indie film scene for nearly a decade. Back then, the pop-up cinema showered Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah with a carefully curated selection of independent films. That's when the founder, Butheina Kazim, had a lightbulb moment and decided to plant some permanent roots in the vibrant creative district of Al Quoz in 2018. Soon Cinema Akil became the place to visit for special screenings, incredible events, and festivals.
The exact opening date for the 25hours Hotel Dubai One Central branch has yet to be revealed, but the anticipation is building. So get ready to grab your popcorn, sink into those plush red velvet chairs and let the magic unfold.
