Miya Dubai opens the first Greek restaurant on Bluewaters Island

The sun is setting on Bluewaters Island, and we have a front-row seat to all of the action. Kids are running down the promenade, a live band is playing in the distance and the blockbuster view stretches from Dubai Marina to JBR Beach. And this is all thanks to the new restaurant, Miya Dubai.

Miya Dubai aims to bring a touch of Mykonos to Dubai. As so many restaurants in the city have drawn inspiration from this one Greek island, it can be hard to stand out from the foodie crowd. What makes this new venture different is that it has been created by hospitality heroes, Bulldozer Group. Plus, it exudes plush rather than party vibes by the bucket load.

Miya Dubai's décor is on point, and feels like an ode to Greece. The name is inspired by the Greek figure, Miya. The venue is decorated with statues of Greek gods, gorgeous greenery from hanging plants to indoor trees, floral wall motifs and clay pots. Plus, at its heart is the bar and Cycladic-style staircase.

The restaurant oozes a beach-chic vibe. Sure, there are white tablecloths, but also fringed parasol umbrellas and lampshades. Look out for the finer details, from the brightly coloured plates to the tiled tabletops.

The venue spans two floors with indoor dining and outdoor terraces on both levels. On our visit, we are sat on the ground floor terrace, which is buzzing with visitors. So much so, that the tables are a little too close – not only can we hear fellow diners, but our chair is wedged into the person behind.

Miya Dubai's menu is where the Greek theme fully comes to life. Traditional techniques are given a modern twist, and the dishes are great for groups. The menu is divided into meze, raw, salads, appetisers, soup and pasta, mains, sides and desserts.

We start with meze dips and pitta bread, which is served on wooden stands. The Chicken Souvlaki is served with salsa verde, and the Sweet Potato Fries are garnished with parmesan.

When in a Greek restaurant, order the Greek Salad. We love that the portion is big enough for two and comes with chunky cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and olives. Plus, it's topped with a slab of feta, which is cut and mixed at the table.

The Feta Saganaki is return-worthy good. The combination of textures, from the crispy filo pastry to the soft feta cheese, work perfectly together. The saltiness and sweetness are balanced out with truffle honey and homemade jam dressing.

The Milhoja is superb for sharing. The epic portion includes layers of puffy pastry and cream, which are mixed together at the table. If you usually skip desserts, this is not overly sweet and is a light alternative.

Miya Dubai's cocktail menu includes classic drinks with creative names. The list includes a Greekstar Martini, Lillet Spritz and Mastiha Mai Tai. Plus, there are a selection of wines and mocktails.

Miya Dubai has already made its mark as the only Greek restaurant on Bluewaters Island. We see it riding that wave, as in the future it will host Greek dancers, singers and plate smashing. So, get your besties together, as there's no scrimping on servings. Go, have a smashing time.
